Frequently Asked Questions/Studio Policies

Where should I look for dancewear?

Quality dancewear can be purchased from a dance specialty store or online retailers.  If looking on-line Discount Dance Supply (www.discountdance.com) provides some of the best values. We have set up an online store with Discount Dance for class attire! Search for studio and area code and click on your students class level! There is a studio discount!  Tights and leotards can also be purchased at a discount price (though often lower quality) from big box stores such as Target, and Walmart, although we do not recommend their footwear.  Empire Dance Shop in downtown Spokane, WA, is a great place to buy dancewear, although prices will be higher.

What is the proper dance attire?

Ballet students may wear any color of comfortable leotard with sleeves or without. Skirts and dance shorts are also allowed. Pink, canvas or leather ballet shoes and pink tights, footed or with reversible feet are required for the recital. Boys may wear black pants, white t-shirt and black ballet slippers.  Jazz/Tap/Lyrical students may wear a leotard of any color and leggings/capris. Absolutely no baggy clothing (sweatpants, sweatshirts, t-shirts, jeans etc.) are allowed. This will be strictly enforced.  Students may purchase their choice of black jazz shoes and black tap shoes, please avoid sneaker shoes as these make it harder for your student to perform technique properly. When purchasing ballet shoes, please do not tie knot with the strings and then cut them off. Student’s feet expand when they dance and tying a knot does not allow them the space needed and can cause serious blisters on their heels. HipHop Danceers will wear leggings and leotard or fitted top. Boy may wear sweatpants and a t-shirt. Hair should be secured and pulled away from face. A bun is preferred.  It is recommended that ALL students have a black leotard without a skirt.  Absolutely no bare stomachs or crop tops allowed in class.

Why can’t our student chew gum during class?

Students can choke on gum during dance classes. Please make sure they do not have any prior to class.

What are the costume fees set at?

Although it is difficult to set a price for costumes, we strive not to go over $65 per costume. Several beautiful costumes have been found for under $65.  Teens to wear adult costumes typically cost $65-$85 per costume. Please keep in mind that tights and shoes are not covered under this fee.

Do you have Recitals?

This year we will have and informal recital in December and a May Showcase. Dates TBA

Are Cynthia’s Dance Connection costumes modest?

Although there is some subjectivity in this area, we feel that the costumes we choose are both attractive and modest.   There are no bare mid-rifts. We only select costumes that meet our standards.

When is tuition due?

Tuition is due by the first class of every month. Currently, we only accept checks, money orders or cash for tuition to help keep the cost low. There will be a late fee of $10 if tuition is not paid by the 10th  of each month unless previous arrangements have been made.

Is there a processing fee on returned checks?

Yes, there is a $20 processing fee on returned checks.

Will there be make-up classes in case classes are cancelled?

If make-up classes are needed, we will reschedule them on a different day. Parents will be notified of class cancellations. Please be sure to check your email or Cynthia’s Dance Connection Facebook page. If you do not have either, I will contact you via phone. If classes for the St Maries School District are cancelled for an emergency (snow, ice, no electricity), dance classes will also be cancelled.

What if my child misses a class due to illness or other circumstances?

If your child misses class due to illness or other circumstances, they may make up that class in another class suitable to their level. Please notify me in advance about this.

Does Cynthia’s Dance Connection organize individual and class photos?

Yes.  Each year we schedule a photo session with a photographer for both individual and class portraits.  We organize this as a service to our students so that you can have professional photos taken of your dancers in their costumes.  There is no obligation to purchase photos, but all students should attend and be in the class photo.

When do classes start?

Classes will start September 19, 2023 and go until the end of May 2024.
